My fiancee forbid me to try out Freetrack. She did not want see me walking around with LED's on my head, that would be just too much for her, she already thinks I'm half crazy.
In the other news, I will try out Notrack tonight again, will report.
I personally think TrackNoIR is too jumpy, it usually always jumps around a bit. There's a lot of tweaking possible (and required), but I couldn't get it to work really well until now.
I played with FaceTrack again. I was able to find relatively usable settings after some tweaking. I never used any kind of tracking devices before so it was all new to me.
So I just increased neutral zones till I got more control over the movement. Before that free look was all over the place and seemed like its moving on it's own. Now it is relatively ok, but I need to move my head carefully not to overdo it. Not too comfy but guess it needs practice.
You don't need expensive camera for this. Look how this guy got it all set and working with pretty average model:
for my case, I tried ordering an IR-lit webcam, for my reflection setup, but it seems it was a normal light on it, so thats just blinding you. Fortunately I could cancel my order just in time.
On the down side, it seems those IR camera's are nowhere to be found
BTW ... I didn't like using it too much because even though you turn the camera with your head , your eyes must remain on the screen. It didn't feel right. Although the alternative would be strapping my 32inch monitor to my forehead and I'm thinking that would be a pain in the neck. Anyway try it. Its free.
I had a chance to borrow one of these http://store.sony.com/p/Wearable-HDTV/en/p/HMZT1 for an evening. Strapped my TrackIR on it so I could move my head in game too. Tried it with arma 2 and DCS A-10. It was quite immersive but I couldn't get the whole picture sharp so after a while got a headache using it. Also the thing was a bit too heavy and poorly balanced. But would have been a nice replacement for a monitor if it had worked properly. The guy that borrowed it to me didn't have the issue with blurred corners in the image so guess it's just that my head is too big or something.
I haven't tried it myself but it has an Aruco Tracker, which as I understand uses a pattern stuck to your cap and tracks that, rather than trying to track your face and is meant to be much more reliable https://github.com/opentrack/opentrack/w...co-tracker
I've just rebuilt my 3-LED clip and got up the courage to open up my PS3 Eye cam and remove the IR filter and the difference is amazing. Before it struggled to pick up the LEDS and now they blind it!
Haven't got round to tuning OpenTrack for ArmA yet but it's working great in DCS World
I found this cool USB rechargable 5v battery as well, which I've stuck to the top of my headset to power my LED clip, so no need for extra cables to draw power from USB ports. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/301079254334?s...1439.l2649
Another thing people might want to try is using the sort of sensors that are in smartphones, so no need for a webcam or LEDs but it will require a USB lead from the headset to send the positional data, as well as for the power but if you're using a wired headset you can just attach this extra lead to your headset lead to keep it out of the way. http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.ph...r-under-10
It has separate settings for each half of the axis for one thing, so you can make it more sensitive when looking down than looking up.
It also has translation compensation, which means if you've turned your head to look to your side and then lean in to lean forward, it moves in the direction you're looking and not towards the front of the cockpit (if you're in a helo/plane).
Has a few other settings I don't really understand yet but they'll probably come in handy.
I don't think the Aruco Tracker is in FTNoIR either, although maybe it will be added in a future update.
