Is this a mandatory download that adds new content or does it simply "improve" the A3MP islands?
It adds new content (new islands like Saharani) AND improves the rather crappy A3MP islands. Yes, this is mandatory. Until you get it you can still use A3MP, but the intention is to completely transit to AiA TP.
