It's Gengo, they hire freelancers and their idea is to have non-machine translations that can be done quickly by having a lot available translators (texts are usually not long). However, since they are Japanese they expect you to commit seppuku if you translation is not up to the standard.

Ouch, sounds like the American version would be Amazon mechnical turk, except theres multiple different contractors and people can review them (so if their review sucks, then people won't work for them <which is too much rejections for dumb reasons, etc>). Freelance stuff too. Multiple different types of tasks such as voice transcriptions, copy and pasting stuff, finding a search result, surveys, receipt transcriptions etc.
