Pilbara photos - Marto - 09-11-2010 Had a trip up to the Pilbara recently. Here are some pics: Camp: Terrain: Snappy Gum: Bush tomato (good tucker): Spinifex: Mulga tree and spinifex: All the rock is pure iron ore: Permanent waterhole in cliff/gorge: Morethia ruficaudata (redtail skink): Ctenotis saxitallis: Walk out there without water and you die: Gecko: Permanent spring and waterhole in gorge: Litoria rubella (desert tree frog): Baby Olive Python: Figs at permanent spring (good tucker): Gorge with permanent spring from above: Pseudomys hermansbergensis (sandy inland mouse): Another gecko: Sturt's desert pea: Cave shelter: Vespadelus bat: Taphozous georginus: As I said the rocks are almost pure iron (Chinese pay lots for our iron ore): Some things that are not so good in your sleeping bag.... Small some of the creeps you handle but you beat me, if I had been there you would have seen a fast running, fucking scared Norwegian Re: Pilbara photos - Marto - 09-12-2010 It is winter/dry season up there now so not many animals out compared to the cyclone season Dec-May. A pack of dingos/wild dogs stalked two friends when they were hiking in a gorge alone - one got within 5m and they had to throw rocks at them. Freaky stuff. But I could imagine Overlord running through the desert with one of these "man-eaters" chasing you: |
