Arma 3 Server hack. - GG-Viktor Reznov - 04-24-2013

From what I am reading it seems this is a bit more than a simply "script kiddie" also something else that would cause a problem to CiA's closed server.

Quote:From my investigations,

This is actually a security hole within the engine, BIS_fnc_MP is being recompiled by the attacker and sent over the network, it's overriding clients BIS_fnc_MP (which is why there is a infection). If a client is infected (i.e the attacker comes on, executes, sends) they will stay with the changed recompiled BIS_fnc_MP till he/she restarts their game. This is a security hole within the engine, BIS functions them selves shouldn't be able to be changed period. To allow people to 'recompile' BIS's functions is really just a stupid idea and should be changed in the future, it's one thing to let a mission maker change and recompile a function for their mission.

Basically If you connect to an infected server, you get infected. If you then connect to another uninfected server, you infect them.(aka you seem to be the hacker).  I'm also reading that there is a possibility that it affects local games .

Thus far they have only said how to remove "whatever it is" from client. No word on how to remove it from an infected server. Maybe restarting just like the client?

Damn, I never thought it was that possible. I'm glad I haven't played in public servers for ages (last time I did was ARMA 2 domination server back before ARMA became mainstream with DayZ kids running around).

That sucks. Not good for Arma III and BIS overall I'd say.

Funny thing is, just the other day I saw this thread on BIS forums with this guy whining (well expressing an opinion anyway) that 'based on how infested DayZ is with hackers, Arma III is highly vulnerable . . ." or some such.

He got pretty much cut off at the knees by a bunch of guys, but it looks like his prophecy has come true.

Maybe that's the hacker!!!

Re: Arma 3 Server hack. - Rund - 04-24-2013

Seems this hacker has "good" intensions, and the "hack" is not affecting anything serious.  However, it would be easy for anyone to modifiy it to do more harm.

The bad thing is, that even passworded servers can be "infected" if it really works this way.

No worries for our server though, just reboot your game before joining to be sure Wink
