AAN News, Takistan.
Three days ago a small team of UN peacekeepers swiftly responded to distress call from a remote UN operated medical outpost in Ravanay. After a brief firefight the UN team, mostly Chernarusian and Sahrani peacekeepers, pacified the situation, only to find town utterly devastated in a rocket attack from across the Neutral Zone.
Despite swift response, they were too late. UN medical personnel and five journalists, including my friend and colleague Brian Murray of AAN News, were killed in the incident.
The same night was of ill luck also for United States Armed Forces in the region. US Army spokesman Lt Col Hammer reported US Chinook helicopter was lost in the mountains in a training mission due technical malfunction with no survivors. According Mr Hammer the loss of helicopter is completely unrelated to incident in Ravanay.
This morning a batch of new helicopters in white UN paint arrived to joint US-UN airbase of Loy Manara. Our military correspondent identified one of the helicopters as a modern Chernarussian 'Super Hind' gunship. UN spokesperson has refused to comment on the issue, but admitted that further measures are taken in light of recent incidents.
UN mission is a peacekeeping force, not a warfighting army. Does the arrival of heavily armed modern instruments of war provide security, or further escalate the delicate situation?
