Seriously, I have heard they're good for back problems though. Another tip I've read is to stand on one leg whenever you're standing, doing the washing up for example and even to stand when reading or watching TV (basically anything where you'd normally sit and don't have to) up and to alternate legs every minute or so. I don't think the time between switching is particularly important, the idea is that we're designed to move and standing still is almost as bad as sitting, so by switching between legs it exercises the muscles that get unused when sitting or standing.
I've got a pile of stretching/back exercises from the physio anyway, so I'm working through them and I'm sure they'll help. I also bought a vertical mouse which is much more comfortable than a normal mouse (although it's a bit more fiddly trying to place the cursor where you want it than with a normal mouse but it's just a matter of adapting to it and it's no good for games like ArmA, so I still use my normal mouse for that).
