looking forward to playing this one! This is a pretty realistic scenario. A sub can really torpedo a ship in mid sea without anyone noticing. Unlike missiles, torpedoes are stealthy and inflict catastrophic damage. No crewman will be able to even use the radio to signal what had happened, and if there's no one in visual range from the ship, it will never be known that it even blew up.
